# Items _(Realtime-enabled)_

Read and write the item master. Its collections, [variants](https://eonesolutions.github.io/eone-bc-integration/core-variants.md), [references](https://eonesolutions.github.io/eone-bc-integration/core-itemReferences.md), [units of measure](https://eonesolutions.github.io/eone-bc-integration/core-itemUnitsOfMeasure.md), [attributes](https://eonesolutions.github.io/eone-bc-integration/core-itemAttributes.md), and pricing, hang off the item as nested sub-pages (in the navigation), each `$expand`-readable and deep-insertable on create.

The `integrationId` on items sits at a different field number internally but behaves identically. See [The Integration Id](https://eonesolutions.github.io/eone-bc-integration/integration-id.md).

Set `itemTrackingCode` to make an item carry serial, lot, or package numbers. The code must already exist in Business Central, because the tracking codes themselves have no endpoint. The rules on that code decide which numbers a document line accepts, and an item with a blank code refuses tracking altogether. > **Caution:** Business Central refuses to change `itemTrackingCode` once the item has ledger entries, or once an open document line already carries tracking. Set the code when you create the item.

| `number` | No. | Item number (primary key). Changing it on PATCH **renames** the item. |
