# Dimensions

Any table that carries dimensions now has eight flat columns, `shortcutDimension1Code` through `shortcutDimension8Code`. Making it easier to apply these dimensions directly on the API endpoints.

Send the dimension value code in the matching column; Business Central validates it against the dimension exactly as the UI does. Omitted columns are left untouched on a PATCH.

```
PATCH /salesOrders(<id>)
{
  "shortcutDimension1Code": "SALES",
  "shortcutDimension2Code": "WEST"
}
```

## Where the values come from

Dimensions 1 and 2 are the global dimensions. Dimensions 3–8 are surfaced through extension fields. List the dimension definitions themselves through the read-only `dimensions` endpoint, and create the dimension values under them via the [Dimension Values](https://eonesolutions.github.io/eone-bc-integration/core-dimensionValues.md) endpoint.
