Prerequisites
What must be in place before the integration can call Business Central.
Business Central version
The extension is a Business Central online app and is not supported on-premises. It requires the platform and application version declared in its app.json, currently Business Central v27 (2025 release wave 2), runtime 16.0. Production environments stay current automatically. A sandbox pinned to an older version cannot install it.
An account for the SmartConnect connector to use
The external tool authenticates to the Business Central API as its own account. Use one of:
- A service-to-service (S2S) / Microsoft Entra application registered in your tenant and granted access to the environment. This is the usual choice for a headless, unattended integration.
- A named Business Central user, when the integration runs on behalf of a specific person who already holds Business Central rights.
Register the Entra application and grant it access under Microsoft Entra Applications in Business Central (or the admin center) before you assign it a permission set.
Permissions for that account
Assign the account the permission set that matches how it is used: for a dedicated S2S integration that is EONE Integ. Full, which grants the endpoints plus the base-table access that reads and writes need. See Permissions for the full decision.
Data that must already exist
The API resolves related records by key, but it does not create master data on the fly. Before importing documents, make sure the records they reference already exist in Business Central (or are created through their own endpoints first):
- Customers, vendors, and items referenced by documents.
- General ledger accounts, journal templates, and batches used by the journal-wrapper endpoints. The endpoint setup grid points each document type at a template and batch.
- Dimensions and dimension values, if the integration sends dimension codes.
Outbound network access
Licensing verifies by calling the eOne licensing service, so the extension needs outbound HTTP access. An AppSource-published app is granted this at publish time, so nothing needs enabling. Note the call if your organization reviews what its Business Central environments reach out to.
Next: Install & upgrade. What a fresh install puts in place before you touch the setup card.
